Goodbye, Earth

If we want to survive, we have to get off this rock. That’s a fact of our evolution. We are a planetary society. We need to become a solar society, then a galactic one. Eventually we need to spread out across the universe, and even across multiple universes.

We are now situated in the middle of a calm period between catastrophic events. A large asteroid or comet strike is certain to happen eventually. The Yellowstone supervolcano will erupt sooner or later. Our long term survival depends on colonizing new worlds.

In order to meet the future we will have to evolve. Fortunately, our intelligence means that we can direct that evolution with technology. We will merge with technology, exchanging our meat machines for more durable synthetic ones. Uploading and copying our consciousnesses into new vehicles. Becoming digital.

We will evolve and meet the challenge, or we will die. That’s evolution. Now is the time for us to step up or fall.

We are still babes, but soon we will have to leave the nest. Mother Earth did a great job of getting us this far. Let’s face the fact that we will have to leave home and mother soon and strike out on our own.
